About

Built for the people who keep the world running.

Back-Talk is for service businesses that lose work because they cannot get to the phone. We exist because two of those businesses are run by my brothers, and I watched both of them lose jobs they should have won.

Why Back-Talk exists

One brother owns an HVAC company. The other is a general contractor in a rural area. Different trades, same problem.

The HVAC operator misses calls because his hands are full. He is on a ladder, he is in a crawl space, he has a meter in one hand and a wire in the other, or the equipment around him is loud enough that he wouldn’t hear the ring even if he could answer. The general contractor misses calls because cell reception where he works is unreliable. The phone simply does not ring. Voicemails arrive hours later, if at all.

In both cases, the customer called once, did not get an answer, and called the next person on the list. The job was gone before my brothers ever knew it existed.

Every operator I talked to had the same story. Plumbers, electricians, real estate agents, lawn care, cleaning crews. Not a marketing problem. Not a sales problem. A presence problem. You have to be the first one to get back to them, and when you are working with both hands, you cannot.

What Back-Talk does

When you miss a call, Back-Talk reads the voicemail, understands the context, and texts the caller back in seconds. The reply sounds like you, not like a robot. It only says what you have approved. If the caller has more questions, Back-Talk holds the conversation until you can take over yourself.

The whole point is to keep the lead warm long enough for you to earn it. You finish what you are doing. You text back from the truck on the way home. You still get the job.

What we believe about AI

The trades have been pitched a lot of software that does not respect them. Confusing dashboards, hidden fees, AI that hallucinates and embarrasses the operator in front of the customer. We are tired of it on their behalf.

Back-Talk does three things, and we measure ourselves against them.

  1. It sounds like you. The reply is trained on how you actually talk, not on a template. If you do not curse, it does not curse. If you keep things short, it keeps things short.
  2. It only says what you have approved. No bait-and-switch. No invented prices. No promises you did not authorize. If a customer asks something Back-Talk has not been cleared to answer, it tells the customer you will follow up, and it lets you know.
  3. It hands off cleanly. The moment you are ready to take over, Back-Talk steps aside. You read the thread, pick up where it left off, and the customer never sees the seam.

Who we are

Back-Talk is a product of Oberth Systems, a software company based in Lancaster, Ohio. We build tools for people who work in the real world, using AI in transparent ways. We do not sell your data. We do not pretend to be something we are not. We are founder-led and we ship what we use ourselves.

If you run a service business and miss calls, this product was built for you, by someone who watched the people he loves lose work to a problem nobody had solved.
